The Holland Open Air Museum (Nederlands Openlucht Museum) Arnhem

13 August 2016, The Holland Open Air Museum (Nederlands Openlucht Museum) Arnhem
We took train from Den Haag Central Station to Arnhem Central Station. From there we continued by Breng (name of the bus in Arnhem) no 3 direction Burger’s Zoo and we stopped at Burger’s Zoo bus stop. From there, we walked to the museum.

Ticket to enter this museum was EUR 15 for adults and EUR 11 for child 4-12 years old. As we have Museumkaart, we got free entry. First, we entered the entrance which also a museum shop. It’s a small shop that sells some things especially for children. Also we can buy some snacks and drinks here. The Museum opens from 10.00 am to 17.00 pm.

In this open air museum we can see the history of how the Dutch lives and works. The building and things inside it were set according to its original time. There were farm area, where we can find farm with its animals, and farmhouse to see farmer’s rooms and their activities at home. In this area, there was also a resto. We tried its apple tart and cheese pastry here while waiting for the rain to stop, and lucky for us the rain only poured just for a while. Then we continued to fisherman area, where we can find Fisherman’s cottage and boat yard, we can see how to make a boat here. We also tried to cross the lake with a small boat here.

After the fisherman area, we arrived at the playground area. There was the high wheel bicycle type with its big wheel at front and small wheel at the back. Not only children tried this bike, but also adults had fun trying this bike. Beside the bike, there was a pedal cart and wheel games. While waiting and watching Kaeo busy played, we tried poffertjes at the poffertjes stall. In this area, there were some shops that sell foods and drinks, such as bakery shop, chinese resataurant Azie. Of course all the setting was like in the past.

From here, we decided to try the tram. So we walked back to the entrance area, where we can find the tram stop. We took the tram and stop at children’s farmhouse activity. It’s a good place for children as they can play and do some activities such as milking milk from wooden cow, learn how to do laundry like in the past. There’s also small farmhouse with some animals in it. After finish playing, we continue by walking to the Hanekamp Inn. It’s also a nice place for children as they can play in the maze and playground.

Though, there’s still some area that we want to visit, but we ran out of time. So we took the tram back to the entrance. For going back, there was a nearer bus stop, near the bridge. We took the same bus to Arnhem train station. Because it was summer and we had a long day light, so we continued our trip to Nijmegen, one of the nearest town from Arnhem.
