Haarlem
Haarlem
17 April 2016
We visited Haarlem as part of our trip to Hillegom. From Hillegom, it took only 10 minutes by train. As we did not had our lunch at Hillegom, and it was almost 4 pm when we reached Haarlem, first thing we did was had late lunch. Lucky for us, we found Surinaams Indonesisch Resto, Sinar Cinta, not far from the station (only 5 minutes walk) and double lucky that the resto was opened at 4 pm. So we are their first customer :)
After eating, we felt a lot better and ready to explore the town. Haarlem is a small town. It was easy to explore this town by foot. The main attraction was St. Bavokerk. It was first built as a Catholic church, but now it's s a Protestan Church. It was located on the central market square. And because it was near Kings Day, there was a fair in the square,
Not far from the church, we can see the Spaarne river with its unique bridge and beautiful row houses along the canal. Continued walking along the river, we arrived at Molen de Adriaan (Adriaan Windmill). It was built at 1778 but got burned at 1932. It was rebuilt again and the construction finished at 2002. The windmill is one of the Haarlem landmark.
Besides the scenery, there were some interesting museum such as Frans Hals Museum for art collection and Teylers Museum for art, natural history, and science.
