17 July 2015,
Today, we planned to visit Kinderdjik. We took train from Schiphol to
Utrecht Centraal Station (around 30 minutes) then we continued by bus 90 (Rotterdam Zuidplein) goes to Alblasserdam. Bus 90 is the only one that stops at the entrance of the Kinderdijk. Kinderdjik is a small village where we can find 19 windmills which
were built in the 1500s.
From the bus stop, we crossed the street and will find a
souvenir shop with a street on the left side, just follow the street, it
leads us to ticket booth. With the entrance fee Eur 7.5 (adult) and Eur 5.5 (child 4-12 years old), we can enter the site.
We can enter some of the windmills. And aslo visit the museum, that will present a video on how the windmill system works. To explore this site, we can also ride a boat along the canal, ride a bike or just walking. And because its unique collection of 19 authentic windmills, Kinderdijk has been an UNESCO Heritage Site.
From
Kinderdjik, we took the same bus to go back to Utrecht Central Station. From
the station we just need to walk through the Hoog Catharijne shopping center (that connected with the station), then we
will arrived at the Utrecht Old City. Here, we can see Domplein, the square
which we can see The Cathedral with its famous tower, Dom Tower. The Dom Tower
of Utrecht is the tallest church tower in the Netherlands and is the symbol of
the city
There was also another square that
we can explore, Janskerkhof square,
next to the statue of Anne Frank. Besides these, we can see there were so many
shops, branded shops, restaurants and café.
